Last week saw our first Theme-end Competition of 2015-16, the theme being Travel. Our visiting speakers James Frost FRPS and Hazel Frost FRPS reviewed the 18 images entered and announced the winners. Their general feedback was that each of the winning images gave a sense of place, showing where the photo was taken and not just the subject, in their views essential for a travel photo.

Feedback from James and Hazel: This was a cracking picture. While ideally there should be darkening of the corners to augment the difference with the light in the middle, we liked how the light coming through the window lit the people in the image

Feedback from James and Hazel: We liked the colour, the balance and the symmetry. The picture could have been anywhere but invoked a travelling feel. It would have not been as strong without the man on the right hand side to give it balance; the light illuminating his face was well seen.

Feedback from James and Hazel: This is a well composed image, space for the train to go into, clouds not blown [over exposed], sense of place.
