This year, Kelso Camera Club hosted the annual 3 Way Competition with Hawick and Liddesdale Camera Clubs. Ron Bell from Galashiels was kind enough to spend time judging the pictures entered, giving us his opinions and the all-important scores on the night.
Ron kicked off his feedback with some pertinent and useful comments to do with the task of the photographer. His view is that the photographer should aim to “add value” to the scene in front of him or her, not just point the camera and “click”. There should be some evidence of consideration of composition, lighting and exposure actually adding to the scene. Ron was also keen to stress the need to look round the image to check for distractions from the main subject. They should be cropped, the picture reframed or all else failing, cloned out using software.
An interesting evening and many thanks to Ron for his work. Congratulations to Graeme for his winning short of the evening – “Erin” – which fully justified the judge’s maximum score of 20. Thanks also again to the Kelso Camera Club caterers ably led again by Cathy and Susan who did us proud.
The Kelso entries are shown here together with the Kelso selection panel remarks, Ron’s comments and his scores.
