The Landscape Theme runs from 22nd October 2015 to 26th November 2015.
The Landscape end-of-theme competition will be judged on the 26th November.
Landscape photography is capturing views of the world about us which are predominately about things we can see, but usually excluding people. Traditionally landscapes have been sweeping vistas but they can also include more intimate settings.
Theme Definition
The term “landscape” can be interpreted as any image where the majority of the content is clearly land and NOT urban or sea/coast. However for this theme this restriction has been removed and urban, sky and sea-scapes can form “part” of the image.
General rules for the theme end competition
There are many definitions of the term ‘landscape photography’ from a very narrow description where the predominant content of a photograph will only include a wide panorama containing natural subjects to a very broad description which will include almost anything which is out of doors! There is no right answer here. So – for the purpose of this theme, landscape will be defined as follows.
Landscapes photographs should typically feature scenes of nature: mountains, hills, lochs, rivers, the sea, the sky, woodlands etc where natural features are the predominant subject of the photograph. They may be a wide view of an expanse of land or a more detailed view of a smaller area. However the land has also been shaped by man as well as by nature so landscape can also refer to urban settings and the many ways in which man has had an impact upon the land.
You may wish to consider that our theme allows you to work within this broad definition but it will be judged by an individual who may have a different view of the term and will judge accordingly!
