On 11th June 2018, a group of members from Kelso Camera Club headed off to Seahouses, to pick up the boat for an all day bird watch on the Farne Islands. The Farne Islands lie a couple of miles off the Northumberland Coast. As well as being the most famous Birds Sanctuary in the British Isles, they also have a large colony of Atlantic or grey seals.
The weather could have been kinder, with a grey overcast sky but at least it was dry. So much for my idea, to visit the Farne Islands during the week when it would be quieter, as the boat operator had to put on another boat. The lure of the puffins.
After a tour of the Islands to see the nesting birds we headed onto Inner Farne and Staple Island. We were not disappointed as the photos will show you. It was amazing to watch photographers running the gaunlet as Artic Terns dive bombed them and sometime drew blood.
At the end of the day, back on dry land, the obligatory fish supper in Seashouses was most welcome. A great day was had by all.
